With all of the rapid changes going on in our world right now and the constant information being thrown at us, it is important to remember to take care of our bodies and minds and bring peace and calm into our lives in multiple ways throughout the day.
Here are some ways to make that happen!
Get outside
If your health permits, get outside. Even if you are not able to go for a walk, sit out on your deck, your front step, whatever it is just get out there for 5 minutes! The blast of oxygen and fresh air is an instant mood lifter and we could all used some Vitamin D. Spring is definitely happening and simply being outside feels really uplifting. A little bit of sunshine and warm air can definitely change your mood and spirits, quickly!
Move your body
Even if you can’t get outside be sure to move your body if you can. Have home gym equipment? Now is the perfect time to dust it off. Massive fitness goals don’t need to be your motive – just keeping yourself calm and healthy. If yoga appeals to you there are tons of virtual options for you and your family, both free and membership options. Put some music on and get the kids dancing – especially if you have little ones. They will LOVE this and you will all feel much better!
Meditation
Youtube has tons of meditations but it can be a bit overwhelming if you don’t know what you are looking for. Insight Timer is a great free meditation app that has thousands of meditations broken down by length and category. You are sure to find exactly what you are looking for, including some peace of mind. I will often resort to guided meditation if I am having trouble sleeping – like last night – and I find it really helps to calm me!
Stay in touch with your loved ones
Social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t call, text or Facetime with your friends and family. In fact, you may be doing this now more than you ever have. Lot’s of families are even doing board games and pizza nights via Zoom. Theses times call for creativity in how we come together. Start a new tradition!
Keep busy
Learn to knit, crochet or try drawing. There are tutorials available for EVERYTHING right now so take advantage and pick up a new hobby or skill. Learning is a great way to expand our minds and keeping our hands busy gives us less time to focus on worrying. Puzzles, word searches and cross words are all great options too.
What are you doing to stay calm these days?
